Mynavi ABC Championship Golf Tournament 2019

Aka "Stone Buddha" Jung-Gon Hwang gave a biggest smile with his 4th victory in Japan Tour

Jung-Gon Hwang started to play golf at the age of 13, and as soon as he started, he was among the elite group. The nickname that his junior rivals gave him was "Stone Buddha".
"I was given that nickname because I didn't change my face expressions when I make birdies or bogeys."

Jung-Gon Hwang's poker face is still remarkably kept. 27 years old from Korea started to play in Japan 9 years ago. He has a round framed glasses which is his trademark and is loved by many fellow players and fans for his kind character.

He started off his Final Round 1 shot behind leader Shugo Imahira. These two gentlemen kept on a dramatic seesaw game, which got hotter after 4th hole as Jung-Gon took over the lead.
"I tried to keep my patience during the times where my putt didn't fall. I tried hard to let it go, don't cry over it. That got me in a good rhythm."

Jung-Gon says, he is not a good sand player, but he showed great saves from the bunker today. He became 2 shots behind Shugo at 12th, but he kept his poker face on and played steady to take the lead again at 16th.

Jung-Gon faced the final hole with 1 shot lead, but Shugo wouldn't make it easy for him. Shugo got to the eagle chance and drained it.
"I knew Shugo is really good and it was obvious that he would make that eagle putt, so I went aggressive too."
Jung-Gon answered back by draining the 2-meter eagle putt and won his 4th victory in Japan Tour.
"It's been 4 years since I have won. I am so happy."
Jung-Gon has put aside his poker face and made a big smile in front of his fans.

"I tend to forget bad things quickly, but the way I lost at the Japan PGA was really bad and I couldn't shake that upset memory away. I played aggressively today so that it won't be regretful again."

Jung-Gon became 27 years old at his birthday in May, and he has decided to go for his compulsory military service. After he passes the medical checkup in December, he will be leaving the Japan Tour for 2 years' time.
"I wanted to win this season to secure my spot in this Tour. I would really want to come back to Japan to play again."

"I am supported by so many Japanese fans, and in order to give back, I knew I had to win."
In his 9th season in Japan, Jung-Gon made a victory speech in fluent Japanese and with a big smile.
