Mynavi ABC Championship Golf Tournament 2019

Co-leader Won Joon Lee starts off great to aim for first victory on Japan Tour

Won Joon Lee is known to be one of the long drive players, but today he didn't choose to make advantages with the distance. He only chose to use his 1W on 3 holes today, on Par 5 18th his front nine, and on 4th and 6th after the turn.
"This course has such a narrow fairways, so keeping the fairway and making the putts are the key."

This smart course management worked out great and lead to 4 consecutive birdies from 4th hole on his back nine.

He did have a difficult challenge on Par 5 6th, but it was turned into a chance. His tee shot bended too much to left side and ended in the trees. But his 2nd shot made beautiful flyover the tree and with his 3rd shot he got the ball to 4-meter birdie chance which he easily made.

Won Joon Lee finished with 8 birdies and 1 bogey to score 65 and shared the leader position with Hiroshi Iwata. Won Joon Lee as made a great start to grab his first win in his 13th year on Japan Tour.

Won Joon Lee says he didn't even watch ZOZO Championship on TV because, "watching it will be very stressful to me."
Won Joon Lee is 190cm tall and well fit. He has been always on the top of list in his amateur days. He turned Pro in 2006 believing he will be competing in US PGA Tour. But injury on his right arm got in his way, and the road to US PGA was blocked.

"So many fans are cheering for me so, I want to give back by winning soon. But 13 years has already passed. My dream was to play on US PGA Tours, but now considering about my dearest family, I think challenging the US PGA is too hard to accomplish. So, I don't even want to watch it on TV. It makes me feel depressed."

Won Joon Lee may have put US PGA Tour dream aside for now, but he has won the Korean Tour tournament KPGA Championship in July this year to accomplish his first win as a professional. Now he is on to achieve his first win on Japan Tour. Last Monday, on Oct 21, his first baby was born. Just 2 days prior to his 34th birthday. He made a visit to his wife's hospital everyday and was able to hold his baby in his arms on Saturday.
"I enjoy seeing the movies she sends me every day, feels so blessed being a father watching it. As a father now, my thoughts for golf has changed. Right now, I am so excited to be a father. I became a Pro in Japan, so I really want to mark my first win on Japan Tour soon. I wish to make that dream come true this week."
