Ryuko Tokimatsu's chance for 7 straight birdie was forced to be postponed due to lightening alert

Round 1 of the Fukushima Open was temporally put suspended due to lightening at 15:40 local time. The weather did not cooperate, and the game was finally called suspended due to sunset at 16:30. The total of 56 players, all in the afternoon group will resume their remaining holes early at 7:00 am tomorrow.

Provisional leaders at the moment with 9 under will be Yoshikazu Haku, who has holed out with superb performance, and Players Chairman Ryuko Tokimtasu who still has 4 more holes remaining.

When the lightening alert was blown, Ryuko was on 6th hole, where he was facing 7 straight birdies which started at 18th hole. He had 2-meter birdie putt to make, but when the alert was blown, he broke off from his ball and returned to the club house.

"I was playing so well, so I am afraid that I might lose this momentum when I wake up tomorrow, but that is one factor of golf. You must play day by day. I will try to play strong."

Ryuko made his first career victory at this venue back in 2016. Last year, as his first year as Players Chairman he went around the Tohoku regions including Miyagi, Iwate and this Fukushima Prefectures to donate welfare vehicles for reconstruction support charity.
"It has been 10 years since the devastating earthquake, but there is still many living in temporary homes. I hope this tournament will bring some joy and excitement to the people pf Tohoku."

This week's Dunlop Srixon Fukushima Open will be having the spectators on the course for the second time this year. Ryuko is all motivated to make his 2V at this course to make the tournament as exciting as possible.
