Fujisankei Classic 2021

Takumi Kanaya, the super rookie is suffering with pessimistic state of mind

Takumi Kanaya show has won 3 times already on this pro-longed 20-21 season including the one he won as an amateur is having troublesome feelings on the course. He turned Pro last year in October, who always said his motto is to "Play as I should. Always concentrate on the shot in front of me and do the best performance that I could play". But 23 years old is going through negative mind lately.

Takumi had to finish 4 remaining holes before his 2R. Even for a long round under bac weather condition, he managed to play total 3 under, and positioned himself at provisionally 7T. It seems like he has a great chance to achieve another victory, but he seemed to be pessimistic.

"I have been thinking lately that I can't perform the way I used to. I didn't even have to think, it was all natural to me before, but I can't anymore. And also, if I try to challenge the new tasks, I can't do that either."

Takumi went overseas from US PGA Championship in May, traveled around many Tours to gain experience. He learned a lot, but he also faces he has many hurdles he must overcome.
"I experienced many things and there are hurdles too high for me at the moment, so I know I should fail. But I think it is important to try and challenge the tasks. But nothing seems to be achievable."

This week is his 3rd tournament after his return to Japan. He has some stumbles on his 1Rs for past 2 tournaments, but at the end he finished 10T and 4T. But he says he has not gained any confidence from it.
"This really frustrates me. I felled troubled and seems to have lost my style of golf too. I can't make the clutch putts anymore. I used to be so good with distance control. I was also good with avoiding spots which will lead to mistakes. But all of these potentials that I had seems to have fade away."

His pessimistic thoughts grew bigger as his 2nd shot from the fairway got caught in a bunker and ended up with bogey on 9th.
"I am still in good position, but I seem to be losing control more than I can imagine, and this makes me fell upset. But I do have 2 more rounds. So, I will try to be better and give myself a chance for the win."

It sounded like Takumi was convincing himself to perk up and get back on his feet.
