Fujisankei Classic 2021

Ryo Ishikawa loses 2 weeks in a row, says he just couldn't overcome and control his pressure

Ryo Ishikawa had to settle for runner-up again. He started out with 2 shot lead but ended up with 4 shot deficit.

On the final Sunday, Mt. Fuji still didn't show its beauty due to thick clouds. There was a delay on start times for 20 minutes caused by morning fog, but with no rain and fair condition overall.
"It was the best condition among the 4 rounds we played. I wanted increase my lead, but my game wasn't up to it."

Ryo couldn't take advantage of good course condition and ended up making 4 birdies and 4 bogeys to play even for the round.
"I was nervous and couldn't control it. I still don't have the power of techniques to overcome the mental pressure."

2 of his bogeys were 3 putts on 4th and 9th.
"4th hole was so steep slope and I couldn't hit it crisp. On 9th, I tried to putt straight with smooth touch, but I pulled it to left. My hands weren't moving as it should."

Ryo bogeyed 10th, and his lead was gone. He showed his talent by hitting 1W on the fairway ground on Par 5 6th, but he ended up making a mistake on his approach shot and blew away the chance. Then on 18th, his 3rd shot fell into the bunker. Today his short game was not in good condition either.

His last tournament on his 20s ended with regretful bogey.
"I haven't been able to play with Shugo on the tournaments lately, but I noticed to today that he has gotten better in all aspects."

Ryo took his hats off to the 2 years in a row Order of Merit champion. Ryo had to settle for runner-up position 2 weeks in a row.
"I wanted to perform with better shots, but I am still in working process on all of my game. I just have to keep on practicing."

Tour has 1 week off. Then at ANA Open, Ryo will have his 30th birthday. He must work harder to give himself a big birthday present.
