The Crowns 2021

Shugo Imahira is awarded for “Most Birdies” at The Crowns 2021

2-year Order of Merit Champion Shugo Imahira showed off his strength on the final Sunday at The Crowns 2021.

He started off from 10th, almost buried way down on the leader board but with his 7 birdies, he jumped up to 6T, and shared the 1,000,000-yen "Most Birdies" Asahi Intech Award with Hiroshi Iwata.

On his front nine, where he made 2 straight bogies were because, "I misread the wind and I also had mud on my ball, so the shot wasn't bad at all", recalled Shugo.

He was not on his A game until last week, but he got back on his feet today and his ideal short game was back in action. Adding to being runner-up 2 years ago, he has been in Top 10 for last 4 appearance at Wago, showing that this tough course suites him well.

From the beginning of 2021 tournaments, Takumi Kanaya and Rikuya Hoshino has won and pushed their World Rankings higher than Shugo. Now Shugo sits as 4th rank Japanese player.
"I will start moving up from today and on."

Next week's tournament will be Japan Players Championship by Sato Shokuhin.
"It is a tournament organized by Player's Committee, so I really want to win."

If Shugo accomplished his wish and become the inaugural winner on next week's event, he might get back on that winning streak again.
