Gate Way To The Open Mizuno Open 2021

Katsumasa Miyamoto scored 71 to lose his lead but clings on with 3 shot deficit

Katsumasa Miyamoto had a tough day today, compared to miraculous chip-in eagle finishing round of yesterday.
"It was tough condition today, and I should be glad that I played under par. There is only one more day left, so I will take each and every shot with care and play to win."
48 years old is eager to get his hands on the ticket to The Open, a Major he has been away for 9 years.

Katsumasa was in the afternoon starting group and as he got to the course, the wind was blowing hard.
"I knew that this course has at least 1 day of gusty ocean wind day."

As Katsumasa was getting ready to start from 10th tee, he passed by Juvic Pagunsan and called out, "Juvic, great play today", praised Juvic for his magnificent round.

"I was prepared to face the gusty wind, but I also had big margin against the club house leader, so it was tough challenge to fight."
Katsumasa suffered with double bogey on Par 3 14th, as his 2nd shot went over green, couldn't get it close enough and 2 putted.
"From that moment, it was a struggle. I was feeling like walking on a cloud yesterday with perfect golf, but today I was under pressure. I didn't get much birdie chances and I was always fighting to save pars."

But his struggle paid off on final 9th, as he got to 1-meter birdie chance to close the day under par.
"I am so relieved that I had birdie finish today. I am satisfied with it. I barely clung on. If there were 2 more rounds, possibility for me to catch up could rise. Maybe I should focus on being runner-up. So, I could achieve the ticket to The Open. That's just joking. I must go for the win. I know there will be players who would make big scores tomorrow, so I will do my best and focus on my game."
