Shigeo Nagashima Invitational Sega Sammy Cup 2021

Chance to make a dream come true?! Shunya Takeyasu 1 shot off the leader after 1R

7th year professional Shunya Takeyasu is getting his confidence back by scoring 66 on the 1R at Sega Sammy Cup.

His brand-new putter, which is gear maker finished up on Wednesday worked wonderfully today for Shunya.
"It was really heavy rain yesterday and couldn't practice, so today was first time for me to use this new putter, but it worked more than great."

He made a tap-in birdie on 3rd, then went on making 5-meter, 7-meter for 3 straight birdies. He played his 1R bogey free.

Shunya is now at 103rd on the Money Ranking.
"This season I had to work my way out from the QT, but I did have Tour Seed before, so I want to regain it."

As Shunya said, he had Tour Seed in 2017, but lost it in 2019. He wishes to regain it with the chance he got with this prolonged 20-21 season.
"My golf is much better now than the times I had my Tour Seed. I know I am much better."

Shunya says he is weak under pressure, but some help from his buddy made him conquer it. It was at Dunlop Srixon Fukushima Open, where Mikumu Horikawa caddied for Shunya on the weekends, as Mikumi didn't make the CUT and Shunya was playing with self-cart.
"Mikumu knows how to make course management and controls his emotions well. He analyzed my weakness and good points. His advice is really helping me develop."

Shunya started golf at 10, taught by his father. By Senior grade in junior high school, he has won the Junior Amateur in Kansai district. He went to well-known golf elite high school and won the High School National Championship in his Senior year. After he graduated Tohoku Fukushi University, same as Hideki Matsuyama, and turned Pro in 2014. He succeeds in achieving Tour Seed on Asian Tour right after. So, his career resume speaks that his potential is very high.

"I always thought winning on the Tour is dream that will never come true. But seeing Mikumu and other same age rival winning, I became to think I might be able to win too. Seeing Hideki, my senior from the university fight so hard in the Olympics gave me courage. I want to thank him, but I would like to accomplish something first, to make contact with Hideki."
