Kansai Open Golf Championship 2021

Chan Kim jumped up as co-leader on moving Saturday, but more anxious about his diet ?!

Chan Kim, well-known for his more than big drive made a great Saturday charge with 6 birdies and a bogey to score 66, jumped up from 10T yesterday to 1 of the 3 co-leaders with 12 under total.
"Last week my shots were not consistent, but my game seems to be coming back and I played pretty well today."

During the Japan Tour's off season, he entered the WGC-Workday Championship and came back to Japan at the end of March. He was under 2 weeks of restriction period in Tokyo, then challenged the 20-21 season restarting event Token Homemate Cup.
"Last week my shots were really bad, and I couldn't even control the distances and didn't make the cutline. But my shots are gradually getting better, so I am looking forward for tomorrow's round."

After winning the 2020-year finale tournament JT Nippon Series Cup, Chan went back to his home in Arizona, USA and worked more on diet than golf practice.
"I weighted 112kg at that time. I lost 8kg and I am now 103kg, but my goal is 95kg. So 8kg more to go. I am a bit overweight, right?" giggled Chan.
"I will work on my training and stretches to make my body fit so I could avoid injuries."

Chan may have lost some weight, but he hasn't lost his distance. Chan will stay in Japan until Japan Players Championship by Sato Shokuhin in May and fly over to US for PGA Championship. He will also try out for the sectional qualify of the US Open, then return back to Japan for Shigeo Nagashima Invitational Sega Sammy Cup in August.

"I am now concentrating on getting my game back, so I won't be disappointed if I didn't win. For my future career, I would Be happy with Top 5 finish. Of course, I always want to win and will try to win on every tournament."

Chan talks as he is not so hungry about winning, but that calm state of mind might be the secret for the victory as well.
