Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup Shishido Hills 2021

Defending Champion Mikumu Horikawa quite nervous but prepared to defend his title

Mikumu Horikawa & Mikiya Akutsu
Mikumu Horikawa, the winner of 2019 Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup Shishido Hills is preparing well to defend his title, which he had to wait an extra year due to the pandemic cancellation last year.

Mikumu went on the practice round with Mikiya Akutsu, they are both from Nippon University and has been like a brother hood relationship since the university days.

2 years ago, when Mikumu accomplished his first career victory, Mikiya also finished well at 12T. They were surprised to see the changes made on the Shishido Hills Country Club West Course.
"When I won here 2 years ago, I don't know if I was playing super great that time, but today the course looked so difficult with very narrow fairways. I guess it got tightened. Also, the greens are so slick and fast, probably the fastest green on the Tour."

Mikiya, who is from the local area said, "I have played here on the off season, but it is totally different course now with this tournament settings. Birdie chance could easily become 3-putt bogey if you are not careful. There is not even one easy hole here. I am very impressed with this Major settings. This course setting will clearly expose the players' abilities and technics."

This Major offers 5 years exemption, and it is clear that that prize is not easy to achieve. Mikumu joined the press conference with Isao Aoki, the JGTO Chairman, who has 51 career victories, who gave Mikumu an encouragement speech.
"Mikumu, you are the only player how has the chance to defend the title. You must challenge to win by telling yourself that you are the strongest player in this field."

"Chairman Aoki encouraged me. I am prepared to play with fresh mentality and challenging spirit. I am also very grateful that the fans are allowed to be at the course this week. We really miss the fans. I appreciate to the host sponsor for all of their effort under these tough circumstances."
