Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup Shishido Hills 2021

Ryuichi Oiwa sticks to his "style" and place himself in great position for the 1st victory chance

Ryuichi Oiwa has been making the top 10 finishes in 3 tournaments this year, and at the Mizuno Open last week, he resulted in 3rd, his career best finish. Ryuichi on his third year as professional is in a great position to win his first victory on a Major stage.

He started at 6T, 6 shots behind the leader and he was on a roll making 4 straight birdies from 3rd hole. His birdie putts were 6-meter, 2.5-meter, 1-meter and 1-meter.
"I was surprised to make all of the putts. I was wishing that great putting streak will continue."

Ryuichi's emotions were expressed clearly with the fist pumps he showed after making the birdie putts.
"I was poor putter before, but now my putting is helping me to be in the position like today."

Ryuichi has been coached by same person who taught Shingo Katayama since his days in high school.
"There are 4 drills that you must do, and if you are good, you could finish it in an hour, but if you are poor putter, it takes 5 hours."
Thanks to those strict and demanding coaching, now Ryuichi stands as No1. On putting average STATS.

He also spent many times practicing at Shishido Hills on his off times, with his senior from same Nippon University, Rikuya Hoshino.
"When we play here together, Rikuya totally beats me out. I know that Rikuya would know how to conquer this tough course but chose to figure it out on my own. If I could win tomorrow, then I would ask Rikuya for the answers to see if my decisions were correct."

This is his first time to be in the final group on the Final Round on Japan Tour, but he has made success on the Asian Tour's cub-tour. He made a come from behind win at "Players Championship" on that cub-tour in 2019.
"You never know what will happen until the end, so no matter how much shots I am behind, as long as I am in the same final group, I have learned that I will have the chance for the win."

The fist pump he made on the 18th today was the biggest, as he made 6-meter for birdie finish.

"Many say my fist pump looks tacky. Maybe I should change the style, but I don't think I will have time to think about that tomorrow."
