Casio World Open Golf Tournament 2021

Ryo Ishikawa apologized deeply at the press conference explaining his misconduct during restriction

Ryo Ishikawa held a press conference to give his public apology at Kochi Kuroshio CC, the venue of this week's Casio World Open, regarding his misconduct during the 14 days restriction period after returning back from US PGA cub-tour qualifiers.

Ryo came in front of the media in dark gray suit and dark navy tie, bowed deeply and apologized.

"I deeply apologize for my actions. My misconduct has tarnished all of the efforts made by everyone working so hard to prevent the COVID-19 infections. To all of the fans, members of JGTO, members of Players' Committee, I deeply apologize for my behavior."

Ryo couldn't hold his tears as he said this feeling toward the fans.

"Due to my careless actions, I am prohibited to play the last 4 tournaments. I take this punishment very seriously, and at the same time, I am very sorry to let down the fans who were looking forward for my performance."

Ryo returned on October 24th and placed the application to stay at a golf course for the 14 days. But he used the practice facility and made 2 rounds at the course although it wasn't allowed under the restriction rules. He also went dine with his coach who also went abroad with Ryo for several times. Ryo explained that he was confused with the special regulations given to the athletes before the Tokyo Olympics.

"I just didn't think thoroughly. I figured that coach was with me in the US, so it was okay to dine with him. I should have checked, and I am very ashamed."

Ryo also dined twice with the person who is related to that golf course.

"I didn't have the courage to tell that person, that dining together will be against the rules. I lacked self-discipline. "

After Ryo's misconduct news was released, Players Chairman Ryuko Tokimatsu and Vise Chairman Yuta Ikeda had to apologize in front of the media at SMBC VISA Taiheiyo Masters.

"This is 100% my fault, but it extended to how would Players Committee will handle this issue. I am deeply sorry for making them go through such a painful stress. Especially during the tournament. I really regret for my stupid act. I don't know how I could pay back to the fans and those support me.  I will seriously reflect on what I have done during my penalty period and if there is a chance for me to play back on the tournaments, I promise to do my best."

Ryo kept on and on saying words of apology, shed tears and made deep vows, and left the course.
