Dunlop Phoenix Tournament 2021

Great rivalry battle on the way tomorrow in the final group between Kataoka & Furukawa

24 years old Naoyuki Kataoka will be in the same final grouping with his rival Yuki Furukawa tomorrow.

"I am really happy and looking forward to it."

Naoyuki started off from 10th, and finished his first half with birdie, birdie and eagle from 16th hole. He scored 65 on his 2R and was constantly watching out for his rival Yuki Furukawa's movements.

"I always check where he is at. His results really motivate me. I tell myself that I can't be left behind. We are great rivals and outside of golf we are great buddies."

Naoyuki has already takes the lead as he has accomplished his 1st Tour victory at Japan Players Championship by Sato Shokuhin in May. But after that victory, he has been having tough time on his golf. He is getting on the right track with finishing 4 times in Top 10 and seeking his chance for his V2.

Same as Yuki, Naoyuki is also a rookie. If he could make multiple win on his rookie season, he will become the 3 rd rookie to do so following Hideki Matsuyama (in 2013) and Takumi Kanaya (this season).

"It would be more than wonderful if I could win again. There are so many talented younger player coming into the Tour, so we hope that Yuki and I and others our age could lead them."

This prestigious Dunlop Phoenix has legendary names listed as past winners such as Jumbo Ozaki, Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama.

"I better do my best performance to become part of that honorable list."
