Hideto Tanihara marks his 15th victory just 2 days before his 43rd birthday

Hideto Tanihara on his 34th times playing on the final group on the Final Round succeeded to keep his lead and took away the victory at SMBC VISA Taiheiyo Masters.

 

Hideto came to the Par 5 18 th with only 1 shot lead against Takumi Kanaya. Both shot from the left-side bunker and Hideto landed few meters farther than Takumi for birdie chance, but Hideto drained that long winning birdie putt and close the deal.

 

19th year professional Hideto Tanihara has captured his 15th victory after 5 years of gap since his last win in 2013.

"It has been long time since I last won, so I was pretty shaking up, but I am continuing to fight as a professional because I like this feeling. I can't taste this pressure and excitement without spectators on the course. Thanks to all of the spectators, I am able to have this wonderful victory."

 

Today was his 4th of the season and 34th on his career to play in the final group on the Final Round. He extended his lead to 4 shots at one time, but on the Sunday back nine it was seesaw game.

 

Takumi Kanaya, Takahiro Hataji and Hideto Tanihara are all from same Hiroshima Prefecture, and Hideto was having the blast winning against the young and talented by 1 shot.

"May be the took into the consideration that they should let the hometown elderly win. How kind of them", joked Hideto.

"I enjoy fighting hard against the young and talented super stars."

Hideto smiled like a teenager wearing his second red winner's jacket.
