Mynavi ABC Championship 2021

Celebrating 50th anniversary all of the players send appreciation to ABC COO Shinya Yamamoto



Mynavi ABC Championship is filled with festive atmosphere as the tournament celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The tournament started back in 1971 as Japan vs US Competition Games. On Wednesday, Pro-Am event was held and ABC (Asahi Television Broadcasting Corporation) COO, Shinya Yamamoto was greeted and congratulated by all of the players.

 

Among them was 52 years old Taichi Teshima, who called out "Congratulations, COO!"

He made his first appearance to this tournament in 1997. He became the leader on 1R but finished as 22T.

"I don't have any comments on my tournament results. But I have seen so many dramatic battle at this tournament, such as Jumbo Ozaki making come from behind win by catching up 8 strokes, Ryoken Kawagishi making green in two with 8I at final 18th. This was one of the best tournaments I wanted to be part of. Thank you so much for having me this year too. Please offer me long lasting relationship."

 



JGTO Chairman and legendary player Isao Aoki offered anniversary plate to COO Yamamoto.

"We send our deepest appreciation for having the tournament in such circumstances."

 

On the anniversary plate, past champion's names are engraved.

"It has been more than 50 years since I became professional, but I have my name engraved here, and I am still standing. I think I am doing a pretty good job."

Isao passed professional test back in 1964. He has won back-to-back in 1977 and 1978.
