Japan Open Golf Championship 2021

Junya Kameshiro finishes at 4T and surfaces as new big hitter on the Tour

Japan Golf Association, who supervises the amateurs of Japan, is the organizing body this week. With that said, JGA makes very interesting pairing for the golf fans to enjoy. 5 th year professional, Junya Kameshiro was in the same groupings as Hideto Kobukuro. They are both winners of Japan Amateur Championship, Hideto won in 2012 in his sophomore year in Nippon University, and in 2016 Junya won as he was senior of Osaka Gakuin University.

"I felt a good vibe between us. I like the setting that JGA gave us. Thanks to that, I was motivated seeing Hideto make 31 on his front nine which made me play aggressive and make 4 consecutive birdies from 15th to score 5 under 66 on 1R."

Junya faced trouble on 3rd hole, as his 2nd shot was stuck at the root of the tree. Additional to that trouble he also 3 putted for double bogey. But he said, he told himself that there are still many holes to play, and he will get his chances.

Junya turned professional in 2016, but couldn't come through at QT. He went on to Asian Tour to build experiences and finally became 3rd at special QT held during the pandemic last December. He gained chances to be on the Regular Tour and has been playing well since summer.

He also became known as big hitter at the Driving Contest held at Vantelin Tokai Classic. His record was 331 yards, finished as runner-up to Cham Kim.
"I never thought I could beat Chan, but I am very proud of myself that I was just 2 yards away. This week I am confident on my 1W, and also on some of the hole I do layup, there are makable chances. Since I made a good start, I want to place myself in contention and play under good pressure and accomplish to win at the end."

There are only 3 players who has won both Japan Amateur Championship and Japan Open. Could Junya follow the footsteps of Rokurou Akaboshi, Tommy Nakajima and Kyung-Tae Kim?
