Japan Open Golf Championship 2021

16 years old amateur Masato Sumiuchi made "youngest Hole-in-One" record

16 years old amateur made history at the Japan Open. Masato Sumiuchi, a junior at Mito Keimei High School made hole-in-one at 211yds Par 3 2nd hole. This accomplishment at 16 years and 356 days became the youngest hole-in-one record in history. Until now, the youngest was 17 years and 60 days, done by then an amateur, Masamichi Ito in 2012 Canon Open at 5 th hole on the Final Round. (Records are from 1985 and after)

Masato was undeceived whether to use 4I or 5I.
"I chose 5I, but at the moment of swing I felt I pulled it, so I released my hand and controlled it. Then it went right to the pin. I saw the ball land in good position toward the pin but then it was swallowed into the cup. I have done hole-in-one 3 times before but never on the tournament. I am so surprised that I was able to make new record, but of course I am very honored."

He scored 69 and totaled to 3 under. This was his 2nd challenge on the Tour, and he has succeeded to make the cut line for the first time. Now, he is on the hunt for the "Lowest Amateur" title.

Masato sees, Keita Nakajima who became the 5th amateur to win on the Regular Tour as his rival.
"He is elder, but I must try to catch up with him. So, I know he doesn't, but I consider him as my rival."

Next week, Masato plans to visit ZOZO Championship on Saturday to watch the world's top-class players live.
"Until 2 years ago, I thought the most important thing was having the power to hit long and my admiring professional was Brooks Koepka. But now my admiring professional is Collin Morikawa. He may not have the distance, but he wins at Majors, and he is really talented golfer."

Masato must be very excited to see "Live" Collin next week at ZOZO.
