JAPAN PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP by Sato Shokuhin 2021

Nightmare again for Katsumasa Miyamoto as victory slipped away with another bogey at 18th

Katsumasa Miyamato had to cry 2 weeks in a row. He has been leading the tournament since 2R, but had to settle for 2nd place again, same outcome as last week.

Katsumasa was tied with the club house leader at 15 under when he came to final 18th. His tee shot with a 1W was perfect under gusty wind condition.
"But my 2nd shot was terrible outcome. I aimed to carry it 150 yards with my 6I, but for some unexpected reason, I punched it and flew 165 yards."

His shot went way over the green into the thick and nasty uphill. He did show his short game technics to get it out to 3-meters to the pin but failed to save the putt.

"I knew it was going to break right, so I putted toward left, but still it wasn't enough."

Katsumasa lost last week at The Crowns, and again this week.
"I regret both of my losses, but this week I have different feeling of regret. I just made mistake and took myself out of the chance to win."

Katsumasa with the 2 shots lead overnight, made 2 straight birdies on his starting holes today.
"My starting holes were great, so I wanted to show off how good I was, but suddenly from 5th hole bogeys caught up. From then on, it just went sideways."

48 years old professional lost against a 23 years old, who has won on his 4th tournament as a Pro. Naoyuki Kataoka achieved Lowest Amateur title back in 2014 ANA Open where Katsumasa has won.
"At that time, he was just a skinny young boy. I know he went to Tohoku Fukushi University, same as Hideki Matsuyama and Takumi Kanaya and all the super stars went. He had some tough times with injury. But he has this great power to make success even with the small chance he gets. I also think he is really good looking so, I hope media will focus him and make him popular."

Katsumasa has set aside his regrets, and placed spotlight on the young future star player, which may gather more fans and make the Tour prosper.
