Token Homemate Cup 2021

Katsumasa Miyamoto with Sunday charge finished 7th on his 26th appearance at Token

Top portion of the Token Homemate Cup leaderboard is packed with so many talented young guns. But Katsumasa Miyamoto on his 26th year as Pro made miraculous round by scoring 67, best score of the day, and jumping up to solo 7th on the leaderboard.

Some rain and cold gusty wind have harmed many players performance, but as they suffer, Katsumasa was on cruise control making 1 eagle, 3 birdies and a bogey to finish at 6 under total.

Katsumasa has been a regular to this tournament as he made rookie debut on 1996. Only time he missed this tournament was at the time he was challenging the USPGA Tour in 1999. So, this year was his 24th appearance and he has won here in 2008 event.

"It was really heavy wind today, but I know from my experience that I can calculate the wind and make a good course management. I think I had that advantage."

As Katsumasa recalled, his 2nd shot from 240 yards by 3I to only 2-meters to the pin on 4th hole to grab an eagle was one of the outstanding course management and strategy backed up from his experience.

His new buddy, electrically assisted caddy cart, which he purchased on the net, was making him worried on Tuesday's practice round as he couldn't control it correctly with the remote buttons, but he gradually got used to it by the Final Round.

The tournament was unfortunately shortened to 54-holes.
"I was worried that the whole weekend might get cancelled, so I am very grateful to the sponsor and organizers that they have worked so hard to make the Final Round possible. I hope this week's lessons and tactics we learned would help making the tournament under COVID-19 situation even better."

This long term 20-21 season will be one big turning point for Katsumasa, as he is 49 years old this year and thinking of concentrating on Senior Tour from next season.
"I would keep on trying to win both on Senior and Regular Tours. I am glad that I was able to finish well on the season restarting event. It has given me back my confidence."
