Fujisankei Classic 2020

Ryo Ishikawa sends his greatest appreciations to whom made it possible to have Fujisankei CL

Ryo Ishikawa, Player's Vise Chairman made his appearance at online news conference held today.
"Japan Tour's first tournament in Japan will be held this week. On behalf of the players, I would like to give my deepest gratitude to all of those who worked so hard to make this possible. I do regret that we will not be able to perform in front of all of the fans, but we wish that all of the fans will enjoy the excitement on TV broadcast, as it will be Live on BS Fuji channel every day. I am glad that the Tour was able to resume from this tough and exciting tournament. We will continue this non-spectator style for a while, but we will keep on seeking the way to let the spectators come to the venues. I am hoping that the day will come where the players and fans can get together closely again."

As for Ryo's results, he has made a repeat victory in 2010. But he had to me in isolation for 2 weeks after challenging to PGA Championship last month.
"I wasn't able to practice my shots during the isolation, so that concerned me. But I must be thankful that the tournament is re-starting no matter what my condition is, so I will try to do my best. I have been preparing for 8 months, so I must put every effort this week."

Ryo shared his impression on the Fujizakura CC.
"There seems to be some changes on the course and seems much tougher than before. Key play will be tee shots and iron play targeting the green. The hazards surrounding the green is getting more difficult, so I must be very cautious."

After this week, Ryo will receive another PCR test and fly to US Open, his 2nd Major of this season. This year's venue for US Open is Winged Foot Golf Club in New York and is well-known for the deep and nasty roughs. Ryo was net surfing for some information, and he bumped into an article by Justin Thomas saying "This year's Winged Foots is very tough. 7 or 8 over Par could be the winning score."

"Justin says, it's tough. Well I am nervous wreck now. I have asked Callaway to make new 5W to rescue me out of that roughs. I got myself a good rescue club now. On my practice round today, I intentionally placed the ball in deep roughs and tried that 5W. I hope to do better that PGA Championship. I hope to get better on every chance that I have at the tournaments. I will keep my concentration to place my best effort on every single shot I make."
