Golf Nippon Series JT Cup 2020

Chan Kim comes through the tough contention and grabs the season ending Major Title at JT Cup

Cham Kim has done it! He has succeeded in making the revenge from last year and has become the winner of the Major, JT Cup 2020.

The top of the leader board was all bunched up. There were 4 co-leaders by the last 3 holes of the tournament. But while others suffered, Chan Kim made birdie on Par 5 17th, which eventually got him the 1 shot lead at the end. But the winning factor was the great par saving on the last dreadfully tough Par 3 18th. Chan had 1.5-meter left for par, and by saving it, it has become his winning putt after all.

Co-leaders Hiroshi Iwata and Hideto Tanihara both miss their chances for birdie on 17th and they both ended up making bogey on the final 18th. The Major title slipped out of their hands and landed on Chan Kim's hands.

Chan Kim has earned another Major following the win at the Japan Open last season, and now his Tour victory is up to 5 wins.
"I am very happy to have won the Japanese Major again."

This year, there were only 3 International Players in JT Cup field due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. So, at the moment Chan's victory was concrete, Gunn Charoenkul and Todd Baek celebrated Chan with water shower. Then many of the fellow Japanese players gather to congratulate.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he wasn't able to come back to Japan Tour until November. His 2 top-5 finishes in VISA Taiheiyo Masters and Dunlop Phoenix earned him the ticket to JT Cup.
"I am grateful for all of the support given to me for reissuing the Visa and all, so that I could come back to Japan in restricted period."

The qualification for this year's JT Cup was changed due to the COVID-19 situation. Only the top3 and ties of the 5 tournaments held this year and other spots were filled accordingly to the Money Rankings of the year 2020 until it reaches up to 30 players. The purse was 100,000,000 yen, but 2020 season will be extended to join 2021 season, so the Order of Merit and all the other STATS awards will be postponed until the end of 2021 season.
