SMBC Singapore Open 2019

Thailand's Jazz Janewattananond grabs his first Japan Tour Victory!

The 53rd Singapore Open was won by Thailand young rising star, Jazz Janewattananond. He has become the third Thailand player to win this Tournament.(2001:Thaworn Wiratchant, 2017:Prayad Marksaeng).

23 years old Jazz has won twice before on Asian Tours, but it is his first win on Japanese Tour.
He started 1 stroke behind the leader in the final groupings. He made a great Sunday charge on his front nine and zoomed away to the lead with 5 birdies. He had 3 strokes lead when he made the half turn.

But on 13th, he made "stupid bogey", then the World top player Matthew Fitzpatrick and Japan's Yoshinori Fujimoto got their deficit down to only 1 stroke.
"I was worried that they will beat me. I got nervous."

Under the pretty heavy pressure, Jazz managed to save important par putt on 14 and 15.
"Before the tournament started, I learned about my past mistakes and what I must do on the course" recalls Jazz that his coach's teachings pulled him through.

On 16th, Jazz made a long birdie putt and gave himself a breathing space of 2 strokes lead. And on final 18th, he went for it in 2 with a perfect 4 Iron from 233 yards to 4 meters pass the pin. His winning putt was for birdie.

Jazz first appeared in Japan Tour in 2011. He was still 15 years old then. He said he admires Ryo Ishikawa and wanted to be like him. Jazz worked his way up the ladders just like Ryo did, by fighting among the tough International tournaments.

He is still young, but now he has a big title under his name. He has become the newest Japan Tour member right after he won today. Jazz now has the chance to show Japanese Tour fans his brushed-up play and also his Japanese language that he has been secretly practicing.

Jazz was 4th tied last year at this tournament but it gave him a ticket to The Open.
"The chance I had last year to play at the Carnoustie Golf Links is my best golf memory."
He has earned that ticket again this year. He will be looking forward to making better memories at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club.
