SMBC Singapore Open 2019

What is the Japanese superstar player's 2019 season agenda?

Star players joined the photo session after the Wednesday's Pro-Am tournament. One Japanese super star was invited to join the group of top players. It was Ryo Ishikawa. Big names were such as the Defending Champion Sergio Garcia, Davis Love III, Paul Casey and the top-class young gun Matthew Fitzpatrick was smiling along with Ryo.

Ryo will be in the same group with Sergio this year.
"I had the chance to play with him last year and saw how great he was. His ball striking is great, and his concentration during the shots is so focused. I learned a lot last year."

Ryo could not lift a trophy last season. The remarks he made during his reviews on the season was about "focusing shot by shot".
Ryo did get on the good run, but he has made misses in precious moments. Ryo recalls by stating that "lack of focus" is the reason for stumbling.
"9 years ago, I was able to play well enough with my concentration nevertheless I was immature technique wise. But after 10 years, I got matured technique wise, but my concentration is not strong enough."

Ryo shifted his golf to "shot by shot concentration", and at the year end tournament, although he lost at the playoff, he did make a comeback to the winning competition.
"I learned most important thing is to concentrate strong on the shots. I should not be worrying about technique inferior to the opponent players and just focus on my concentration."

With good mindset and little time off, Ryo is set to make a strong start.
"Physically I am 100% well. I have no worries physically. New driver gives me extra 5 yards, and it feels good too."

Season's first tournament is filled with top players from all over the world. For the last 3 years, the champion's title was taken by the International players. "This course is not forgiving, so you must put out world class play", says Ryo, who seeks to make a comeback to the USPGA Tour soon.

"World's top players are in the field, I can learn so much from them. I feel as a challenger and I will win several times this season. And there's Tokyo Olympics in 2020. That will be another goal to aim for."
