Golf Nippon Series JT Cup 2019

Ryo Ishikawa, the Players Chairman closes the season with a miraculous victory

At the Awarding Ceremony, he cited, "which comments should I make first?" After a pause, he started "On behalf of all of the players, I would like to send our deep gratitude." Then he went on to say, "I just can't believe I won today."

Ryo Ishikawa finished his 2 years duty as the Player's Chairman with a great ending. Ryo started the Final Round 2 shot behind the leader. He caught up with the leader at 11th, but from there it was a roller coaster ride. He bogeyed 12, then bounced back at 13, made consecutive birdie at 14, then bogeyed 15, which was followed by 2 straight birdies from 16.
"I actually got confused following my scores"

He was playing along with No.2 Money Leader Shaun Norris, and in group front of him was No.1 Shugo Imahira.
"I was already out of the Order of Merit race, but I was really enjoying the round."

Ryo also said he enjoyed the sudden death playoff.
"Brad was really tough to beat."

It took 3 extra hole to end the tournament. After the pin position change, Ryo made a great tee shot with 4I to 2.5-meter and made the winning birdie putt to close the deal.

Last year, he was in the 3-way playoff but lost to Satoshi Kodaira, so this year he succeeded in making the revenge. With adding 40 million yen winner's prize, Ryo has exceeded the 10 Billion mark on his total career earnings. He also renews the youngest record of that which was set before by Yuta Ikeda at 31 years and 269 days.

Ryo has become the Player's Chairman at the age of 26 last year.
"If it was a class president, it would be easier, but I am among the seniors, and had to represent the players in public affairs and business agreements. I wanted to do better to protect and give better conditions for the players, but it wasn't as easy as I planned. I know I haven't done much, but this experience made me grow as a responsible individual. I can't thank enough for these 2 years."
This victory boosted Ryo's World Rankings from 133th into top 80s. He will get closer for the chance to become one of the 2 Tokyo Olympic Representatives.
"I am still very far from being within the top 2, but I got myself into having slight chance to hang on."
