Golf Nippon Series JT Cup 2019

Ryo Ishikawa grabs the season finale title by winning against Brad Kennedy in playoff

Ryo was at 9 under heading into the final 18th, but from his tee shot mistake, he ended up bogeying the hole to extend the match to a playoff with the club house leader Brad Kennedy.

For the first 2 playoff holes, they have both came through with par. Then the pin position for the 3rd playoff was changed. Brad's tee shot went to left side, rolled down the green for few yard which left him more than 10-meter to putt. On the other hand, Ryo has got to 2-meters to the pin for a birdie chance.

Brad's long birdie try left him more than 2-meter to play. The dramatic match ended with Ryo making the clutch birdie putt to win the tournament.

With this win, his total career prize money exceeded 10 Billion yen mark. A great ending for Ryo and perfect ending for his 2 years of task as the Player's Chairman.

Now, since Ryo Ishikawa has won, the Order of Merit race was taken by Shugo Imahira. He now became the 5th player to defend the prestigious Champion Title following Isao Aoki, Jumbo Ozaki, Tommy Nakajima and Shingo Katayama.

Shugo referred to this honor saying, "I am honored to defend the prestigious title, but I wished that I could have won today and made it. I really regret double bogeying the final hole. So, my goal for next season will be winning at least 3 tournaments."

Ryo thanked the over 8500 fans who waited for the 3 playoff holes to end, saying "thank you for cheering for the Tour, and for all of warm supports. I am honored to end the season with this great Golf Nippon Series title. We will do much more in the next season, so please come again to the courses."
