RIZAP KBC Augusta Golf Tournament 2019

Local favorite Komei Oda makes good charge on Round 1 to become provisional 2nd place

Start time for the Round 1 was delayed for 4 hours due to the disastrous heavy rain haunting the Fukuoka Prefecture, where the Keya GC is located and is also Komei Oda is from. But as he got the chance to start his round, he made a great start with birdie fiesta.

He started from 10th Hole and got right on the momentum with the 7-meter birdie putt on the 10th, which led on to 5 straight birdies. On Par 3 12th, his tee shot with the 6I almost made hole-in-one. He made bogey free round of 65 on the Round 1 and became solo 2nd at provisional leader board.

In 2006 he was tied to 9th, he was tied to 2nd in 2007, and solo 2nd in 2015. Komei has come so close to winning but that was before the greens were renovated. Keya GC was known for the only course on the tournament venue with the Korai greens.
"The Korai greens fitted my putting, but with so slick and fast bent grass greens now it was hard to tackle. But I got hang of it somehow. This is the tournament I want most next to the Majors."

Many disasters have been occurring in Kyushu area and as the team leader who gathers the players from this area thinks deeply of what he could offer to help.
"Only thing I could think of is to do some charity. I have been talking with Ryo and all the Players' Committee members what we could do. We all want to offer anything that we can and help Kyushu area to get back on their feet."
