RIZAP KBC Augusta Golf Tournament 2019

24 years old Kazuki Higa jumps up to the top with course record play

Round 2 also became suspended due to the completion of the leftover holes of the Round 1. 33 players will restart their Round 2 tomorrow morning. At this provisional situation, Kazuki Higa jumped up to the top of the leaderboard. He had 9 holes from Round 1, but in total 26 holes that he played today, he made 13 birdies. His score of 63 on Round 2 with no bogey became the new Keya GC scoring record.

But Kazuki seems to feel some gap between his play and the score he marked.
"My golf is not so good. It's not related to the score I marked today. I couldn't hit from the fairways most of the times today. My shots were going everywhere, but my putting saved me."

As he said, at 9th which was his final hole of the Round 1, he made the 15-meter birdie putt. He also made a long one on Round 2's 11th hole. He made 11-meter and from there he went on to make 3 straight birdies. He only had 8 putts for the back nine.

"I have only played on the Korai greens. I am used to the Korai green in Okinawa, my hometown. Keya GC is the only venue for the tournament which has Korai greens. So, I think I was saved by that too. If my putts didn't work today, I know that I couldn't make the cutline."

Kazuki is from Uruma City in Okinawa Prefecture. He chose his local Okinawa traditional song for his "introduction music".
"I wanted the spectator to feel the beautiful Okinawa ocean and nature through the song. I also want the people pf Kyushu area to feel close to Okinawa since we feel as part of Kyushu area. I also came to Kyushu in my junior days to play in the tournaments and I joined the High School Golf Association in Kyushu district. So overall, I am part of Kyushu."

Kazuki exposed his feelings for the Kyushu area as "home" for him and promises to do well for his fans.
"My shots are going all over the course, but I have many lucky breaks. It could end up as double or even triple bogey, but I am saved from it so far. But on the weekends, I must find the fairways, if not I know everybody will catch up soon."
