JGTO unveils 2026 schedule with new points-based ranking system

The Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO) has unveiled its 2026 schedule, highlighted by the introduction of a new points-based system that will be applied across all 22 events on the tour. Players will compete for a combined prize purse of nearly JPY 3 billion (approximately US$19 million).
The new system has been implemented to reduce fluctuations in player rankings caused by varying prize money levels between tournaments, including the four overseas majors.
Points will be calculated based on prize money, the number of multi-year exemptions awarded, and other tournament criteria, with the aim of more fairly determining seed players for the following season.
The international calendar will begin with the ISPS HANDA Japan–Australasia Championship, a landmark new event co-sanctioned with the PGA Tour of Australasia.
The tournament will welcome the return of JGTO members as they compete against leading Australian and international players at Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club in New Zealand from March 5–8.
The domestic season then tees off with the traditional Token Homemate Cup at Token Tado Country Club in Nagoya from April 9–12. April will also feature the Maezawa Cup (April 23–26) and The Crowns (April 30–May 3).
From the second week of May, a strong run of marquee events will follow, including the Kansai Open Golf Championship (May 14-17), the Japan PGA Championship Senko Group Cup (May 21-24), and the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open (May 28-31). June will be headlined by the Japan Golf Tour Championship Mori Building Cup, scheduled for June 4–7.
In August, the ISPS HANDA Summer Explosion “How Many Birdies Can You Get Tournament” will see its total prize money increase to JPY 100 million and will be contested at a new venue, Kusatsu Country Club in Gunma Prefecture, from August 20–23.
The Sansan KBC Augusta Golf Tournament then returns to Keya Golf Club the following week (August 27-30), providing back-to-back action during the summer stretch.
September begins with the Shinhan Donghae Open, co-sanctioned with the KPGA and Asian Tour (September 10-13), followed by the ANA Open Golf Tournament (September 17-20), and the Richard Mille Charity Tournament (September 24-27).
October will feature a trio of major domestic events, including the Japan Open Golf Championship (October 10-15), the Fortinet Players Cup (October 22-25), and the Vantelin Tokai Classic (October 29-November 1).
Prize money for the ACN Championship Golf Tournament, to be held at Miki Golf Club in Hyogo Prefecture from November 5–8, will increase from JPY 100 million to JPY 120 million.
The season will conclude with a run of prestigious tournaments — the Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters (November 12-15), Dunlop Phoenix Tournament (November 19-22), and Casio World Open Golf Tournament (November 26-29)— before culminating with the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup in December (December 3-6).
