JGTO Abroad: Gunn fires as De Los Santos suffers heartbreak

JGTO international member Gunn Charoenkul of Thailand has done well to secure playing rights on the Asian Tour for the 2023 season.

In the just-concluded Final Stage of the Asian Tour Qualifying School in Hua Hin, Thailand on Sunday, Gunn comfortably made the top-35 cut after carding 69, 67, 69, 66 and 72 to finish the gruelling 90-hole contest in tied 13th on 12-under-par 343.

However, Justin De Los Santos suffered a heartbreaking miss after falling just short in the battle for the remaining two spots through the nine-way playoff.

De Los Santos had earlier three of his last four holes to close with a 66 and finish tied 34th on nine-under overall, joining eight others for the tie-breaker.

The two coveted spots eventually went to Australian Power Horan and England’s Ben Jones, after they both birdied the first.

On the PGA Tour in the United States, Taiga Semikawa and Satoshi Kodaira failed to make the final day of The American Express.

Semikawa shot the best score of the week of 66 but it did little to help him to make the 54-hole cut on Saturday.

Semikawa's poor opening pair 70 and 75 proved costly as he finished five shots shy of the cut made at 10-under.

Kodaira also failed to impress after he could muster just 75, 68 and 71 for 214.

The American Express title was won by world number four Jon Rahm of Spain.
