【No.1】 New Year's greetings from JGTO Chairman Isao Aoki

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the great understanding and cooperation of the activities for the Japan Golf Tour Organization in the previous year.
It has been five years since I became Chairman of the Japan Golf Tour Organization, but it was the first year I felt so frustrated.
On the other hand, it was also a year when professional golfers and the golf tours around the world. Felt that we were truly together with everyone who supported us and we reconfirmed our role and mission in the society.
Looking back on last year's Japan Golf Tour, the SMBC Singapore Open was held in January as usual, and the 2020 season began.
However, immediately after that, the infection of the new coronavirus began to spread, the number of infected people increased day by day, and the spread of this infection was not limited to Japan but was worldwide.
The domestic tournaments were scheduled to begin in mid-April, but the state of emergency was declared in seven prefectures on April 7 and nationwide on April 16, as the result, the Tour had to be stopped. We were in a situation where we had to make tough decisions.
Although the state of emergency was lifted in late May, it was not possible to hold a large-scale event, and most non-resident players whose main battlefield was the Japan Golf Tour could not enter Japan from their own countries.
In September, when the spread of the new coronavirus infection was in a lull, it was finally possible to resume the Tour, starting from Fujisankei Classic and from PGM Challenge II in the AbemaTV Tour. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the organizers and other related parties concerned for their efforts in resuming the Tours.
However, we were still unable to welcome golf fans to the tournament venue. In addition, most of the non-resident players, who account for more than 40% of the total of the approximately 200 JGTO tour members were still unable to enter Japan. In order to overcome this situation, we constantly contacted on the Japanese Government and other related organizations to ease immigration restrictions for the non-resident players.
