The Crowns 2021

Katsumasa Miyamoto couldn't accomplish to defend his champion title but very satisfied

Katsumasa Miyamoto's chance for defending his back-to-back victory at The Crowns was stolen away by Hitoshi Iwata.

During the front nine, as Hiroshi Iwata was making birdies rushes, Katsumasa still caught up with him to make it seem like a match play between them. It was another gusty wind situation, but Katsumasa's iron shots were hot and got himself many chances.

But after the turn on his back nine, Katsumasa recalls, "I calculated wind factor too much", as he pulled his tee shot way left on 12th ended up making his first bogey of the day. From that hole on, he had to struggle hole after hole.
"Wago gets tougher and tougher as you play. I am amazed to see that Hiroshi shot 63 on this difficult course. I don't feel that I lost. I have done everything possible, so I am satisfied with my game. This is really tough and not forgiving course, so I am exhausted. It is better that I don't get to play here until next year. My goal for today was to make my score to 10 under par. I thought that would get me into at least a playoff, but it wasn't enough. Hiroshi was more than great today."

The Crowns was reduced to 54-hole tournament as the Day 1 was washed out.
"I am so glad that we were able to finish the tournament under pandemic circumstances. I also had fun playing along with my old buddy from same college, Shingo Katayama for all 3 rounds."

Sunday was a bit chilly weather, but Katsumasa wore half sleeve polo since he wanted to show the new outfit made by his sponsoring brand. This week all of the players with the sponsor contract with this brand wore the same style each day for promotion.
"I thought I would get a lot of TV coverage chances today, so I didn't put anything over my shirt. I wore 2 layers of under shirt to be prepared for today's cold temperature. My arms were cold, but my plan worked, and my body was warm all the way."

It didn't happen, but his shirt must have looked great on the winner's jacket.
