Dunlop Phoenix Tournament 2021

Ryosuke Kinoshita makes big move solo leader & gains big chance for the Order of Merit race

Ryosuke Kinoshita placed all of his might, confidence and his strong will on the tee shot he made at 183 yards Par 3 17th.

"Pin position was at the left back end, and the wind was blowing from right-side. I am a draw hitter, so I expected that I could make a good one."

His shot was more than perfect. It landed few yards front of the pin and rolled to 10 cm. It looked as if it was going to be a hole-in-one, and the crowd was making big applause.

With this tap-in, he made his 6th birdie of the day and caught up with the leader.

"I have not been able to make birdies on the Par 5 18th. It is tough tee shot position for draw hitters. Trees on the right blocks way and that makes me pull the shot."

His tee shot ended in the left-side rough, surrounded by trees. He took time to figure out whether to choose 5W or iron.

"5W would hit the tree on back of me as I make the swing. I told myself that there in one more round tomorrow, so I have put aside my feeling to go aggressive and played smart."

He laid up to the fairway and saved par. This was very clever choice as Shota Akiyoshi bogeyed the final hole and solo leader position has fallen into Ryosuke's hands. Now he will challenge his 5th final group battle on the Final Round this season.

Ryosuke was out taken the No.1 position of the Money Rankings by Takumi Kanaya last week.

"I knew that I must do something better to achieve Order of Merit race."

He went to his coach, Tomoaki Okushima on Monday and asked for advice.

"I have been asking for tips by sending movies, but it has been 3 months since I received the training directly. I was told that I am not using my lower body well due to fatigue and controlling my swing with my hands."

This tip worked like magic, as it shows on his performance and results

"All of the players who have won here are world top class players. Just like Hideki Matsuyama has. I want to win here and start my challenge on the world class stage from the next season."
