Dunlop Phoenix Tournament 2021

Srixon sponsored tournament hosting professional, Shota Akiyoshi made a great start on opening day

All of the Srixon sponsored tournament hosting professionals wore same outfit, as 1R was dedicated to medical and health care workers and players show the appreciation by wearing something blue. One of that Srixon professional, Shota Akiyoshi played magnificently with 9 birdies and a bogey to score 63 and become 1T with Kodai Ichihara.

Shota won twice in 2018 and both of them was coming from behind win. His 1st victory was at Mizuno Open, and it was the Tour's longest total yardage of 8000 yards.

"But I am not playing well this season. I am having trouble with my swing because I place too much pressure on my hip joints. Eventually my fractured my bones."

This injury led to withdrawing from 2R of Panasonic Open in September.

After the MRI test, doctor notified Shota that there are internal hemorrhage occurring.

"Doctor said, it looked like a bad dead ball which baseball player gets, but it is rare for a golfer. He said I must have pushed myself too much."

Shota had to stay out of the tournament for 2 games, to fully recover.

"It didn't bother me at all when I was young, but after turning 30, many parts of my body started to scream. I must start thinking about my physical wellness."

He talked over with his trainer and came up with new training menu on a day before the tournament.

"I have done all the treatment and trainings and suddenly my body is moving very smoothly. Seeing my score today gave me confidence."

All of the Srixon players wore same outfit and it looked like uniform. Yosuke Tsukada was in same group as Shota Akiyoshi and they do look alike to begin with, but today they looked like twins, as they wore the same clothes from top to bottom.

"I am Srixon sponsored professional, so I will do my best to become tournament hosting winner."
